The days at this hospital have gone relatively peacefully. I have had my own room for the entire time, and have had good care. There have been some painful times as well. The nurse early Monday morning, a sweetie named Sondra, was trying to lance a spot on my foot which was very painful. She apologized, but said she had to do it. She then said that when the doctor came, he would make me cry--something to look forward to, huh?

3 young female doctors came in later with a different nurse. They consulted with each other in Spanish, then decided to go after an abscess which was in my heal. Remember the part about no anesthesia? After a few unsuccessful attempts due to my crying & groaning, they decided to try a local anesthetic which they hoped would work. That consisted of 3 or 4 shots directly into my foot. At least they were then able to get the abscess out of my heel.
That day was the worst as far as them digging into my heel, but I cringed when they came in on subsequent days. It all has worked out, and I'm able to finally put weight on my heel--something I haven't been able to do in about a week.

I will be getting out of the hospital tomorrow (Friday). Jim and I will be heading to a town North of León, where he will put me on a Saturday morning flight to Grenoble, France.
