Pastor's Ponderings - February 28, 2016

Thank you for your kind and generous response to both Fr. Mrozinski and the beloved Apostles of the Interior life who blessed our parish with their witness testimonies and parish mission talks last week. I received many positive comments both about the mission talks as well as Father’s homily. Their presence allowed me to take some time for retreat which was a true blessing in itself to kick off this Lenten season. As I was retreating in northern California, I had the wonderful opportunity to make a brief pilgrimage to the Mission San Carlo Borromeo near Carmel-By-The-Sea. This Mission, which, like our own parish, is dedicated to St. Charles Borromeo, is also the final resting place of the Saint Junipero Serra. While there, I knelt at the tomb of the recently canonized saint and offered a prayer for an increase in apostolic and missionary zeal in our own parish, that during this Lenten season, we might more fervently share the Gospel with all we meet.

St. Junipero Serra’s simple tomb is under the pavement of the sanctuary in the Mission San Carlo Borromeo, where he lived the final years of his life and priesthood.
