Joe came to St. Charles at the age of 2 1/2 with his family in 1953. They are originally from Chicago. He graduated from St. Charles school in 1965 and attended St. John the Baptist De La Salle high school in the inner city. Joe and Marsha (Macken), also from an early St. Charles family and graduate of St. Charles school, married in 1972 and then moved to Chicago as Joe found that he could finish college for less money than here in Kansas City. They lived there for 14 years, with all three of their children being born there.

Joe was transferred back to Kansas City in 1984, returning to St. Charles Borromeo Parish, but they were only here until 1987 at which time they were transferred to Houston. He then changed companies and they returned once again to Kansas City in 1990 and you guessed it, resided in the St. Charles parish and have been here ever since.

Joe became a partner in the engineering and supply company he was with and bought it with Marsha in 1998, running it together until they sold it in 2006. He kept some of his clients and consulted on product design work and traveling extensively for the next four years, earning two U.S. Patents.

He and Marsha have worked in several ministries over the years and Joe answered our Lord's calling to the vocation of the Permanent Diaconate and was accepted into formation late in 2006 and was ordained a Deacon in June of 2011. Let's see now, where do you think Bishop Finn assigned him? Right again, Joe has been serving St. Charles Borromeo Parish since his ordination, where he started out 61 years ago.

Their three children all reside in the northland area, have all earned their degrees and are married with children. Joe and Marsha now have three grandchildren with another on the way as they continue to serve our faith community of St. Charles. Currently, Joe is the Operations Manager for the parish while Marsha provides daycare for two of their grandchildren.

"No matter where our travels have taken us, St. Charles Borromeo has always been our spiritual Home".
