Santiago to Finnesterra, 24/9/2016

Santiago to Finesterra, "Land's End" 24/9/2016

Our hiking complete, we took a bus to Finesterra. When we got there we had to find our hotel. Although we walked, for what seemed forever, up and down very steep streets, we eventually found it. It was a very nice hotel, and the accommodations were great.
We wandered through town and went to the sea shore, and took our pictures by the 0.00 km marker.

We found a German restaurant that had such great food that we went back for breakfast the next morning. As part of our journey we were trying to find a vigil Mass in the area. The hotel owner said that the local Catholic Church only had Masses sporadically since they had been without a priest for 5 months due to illness. She thought there would be a prayer service or communion service at the church at 8 P.M., so we decided to check it out.
The church in Finisterra, called Fisterra by locals, is very small, but is extremely beautiful on the inside, and is typical in rural Spain. It was filling up when we got there, and they were actually going to have a Mass. We were pleased with that. One of the most special things about that mass was the music. There were maybe 15-20 teenagers in the choir, but the acoustics were such that the music filled the space completely.
The next morning we went to the sea shore and sat on the rocks while we watched the sunrise. It was a beautiful morning! Jim then moved away to do morning prayer, and Jane, Ric, and I said a rosary together. As we were walking away to return to our hotel, we walked past the light house. Although the light house was not operational when we were there, the building was being opened as we were leaving, so we got our Sello, stamp on our credential, and headed back to the hotel. The owner's husband then drove us to Muxia in his car.
